Why we human beings sweat?

Sweat is a normal phenomenon to human beings. We sweat under high temperature; we sweat after exercise; we sweat when we wear too many clothes; when we get nervous, we may also sweat a lot. The result of sweating is that our body may give out disgusting odor. To some people, they think the odor is sexy. However, for most people, they will choose to make use of some men deodorant spray to cover the body odor instead.

Actually, sweating is not so terrible a thing. It can play a very important role in the healthy running of our body. Sweating allows the body to regulate its temperature and then cools us down. When we're hot and we sweat, that moisture evaporates and cools us off a bit. Everyone is born with anywhere between 2 million and 4 million sweat glands, and the number of such glands you have will determine, in part, how much you sweat. While women generally have more sweat glands than men, men’s glands tend to be more active and produce more sweat.

According to Wikipedia, sweating is controlled from a center in the preoptic and anterior regions of the brain's hypothalamus, where thermo-sensitive neurons are located. Sweat is composed of water and minerals like calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium. The heat-regulatory function of the hypothalamus is also affected by inputs from temperature receptors in the skin. High skin temperature reduces the hypothalamic set point for sweating and increases the gain of the hypothalamic feedback system in response to variations in core temperature. Overall, however, the sweating response to a rise in hypothalamic temperature is much larger than the response to the same increase in average skin temperature.

However, there is also another thing we should pay attention. When we get cold, we may also give out cold sweat. Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) means that you sweat much more than normal people. Even when you are not hot, anxious, or exercising, you make a lot of sweat. It can be a warning sign of thyroid problems, diabetes or infection. Excessive sweating is also more common in people who are overweight or out of shape.  Therefore, you should try to pay enough importance on it as early as possible whenever you find yourself give out too much sweat.

Besides, as is mentioned at the foremost of this article, when water evaporates from the skin, solid material like urea, lactate and salts are left behind. These substances in your sweat will release unpleasant smells, the so-called “body odor”, from the individual if not washed away. That can also be the reason why everyone smells differently depending on the composition of their sweat: Sweat composition can depend of the type of food or fluids taken in which means an individual's body odor can depend from where he or she comes from.

In a word, don’t take sweating as too serious a thing if it’s not excessive. When you feel sick because of your body odor, just make use of some perfume or body spray for men with your favorite flavors.
